Announcement of the expulsion of one Jewish student and the possible suspension of several others from City College as the result of disorders at the anti-war demonstration held at the college last Friday morning was made yesterday by the Campus, student undergraduate publication.
The expelled student is Edwin Alexander ’37. Acting Dean Morton Gottschall gave poor scholastic standing as the reason for dropping him, stated the Campus. The student said, however, that he was barred because of one over-cut in French, which occurred last Friday when he attended the antiwar meeting.
Alexander charged that it is not the policy of the college to drop a student from the rolls for cuts without several warnings. The expelled student was the main student speaker at the meeting and incurred the wrath of Dr. Gottschall when he refused to step down from the base surrounding the flag pole, where he was making a speech. He was finally pulled down by police.
Alexander stated that two students of the evening session, Morris Levine and Leo Strauss, were suspended because of picket activities on Amsterdam avenue the night of the meeting. School authorities refused to confirm this statement.
