More than 1,000 women attended the annual springtime breakfast of Ivriah, women’s division of the Jewish Education Association, held yesterday at the Waldorf Astoria, Park avenue and Forty-ninth street. Dr. Solomon Goldman of Chicago, spoke on “The Present Jewish Crisis.”

“The present crisis in Jewry is not one of Anti-Semitism,” said Dr. Goldman, “but rather of contemporary reaction to it. We have become panicky and hysterical. Throughout the ages of the past the Jew has shrugged his shoulders with contempt for his enemies. It is noteworthy that the only book on Anti-Semitism that has come down to us was written by a traitor. It is the ‘Against Apion’ of Josephus. Our trouble is that we have ceased to be Jewishly conscious.”

Regarding the German situation, the speaker asserted that the Jews of Germany have been confronting a crisis for fifty years. He cited the low birth-rate among them, the number who were converted to the Christian church, and the exaggerated patriotism to support this contention. There is evidence enough, he said, in Dr. Lessing’s book, The Jewish Self-hate.
