Officers of the newly-created New York State Regional Organization of the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America are hard at work on plans for the coming year, it was announced here yesterday. Rabbi Shepherd Z. Baum, of Albany, was chosen chairman of the new group at a convention in Albany Sunday.
Other officers elected were J.S. Sovatkin, Saratoga Springs, treasurer; H. Nachman, Saratoga Springs, financial secretary; and the following seven vice-chairmen: A.S. Greason, Syracuse; Morris Miller, Kingston; Morris Heller, Saratoga Springs; I. Zacks, Utica; Joseph Hershberg, Albany; Marks Frankel, Schenectady; and Max Fogel, Buffalo.
At the same time Mrs. Rose Harris of Saratoga Springs was elected president of the New York State Women’s Organization of the Union. Mrs. M. Gais of Syracuse was chosen treasurer and Mrs. Morris J. Kohn of Albany, secretary.
REPRESENT MOST OF STATE
The convention was held at the Ohav Sholom Synagogue in Albany. The newly created group comprises the entire State except New York City and environs, which has its own organization.
Convention officers included Rabbi Shepherd Z. Baum, H. Friedman, I. Reinstein, Hyman Kolko, I. Zacks, Rabbi A. J. Horowitz, Rabbi Samuel Mofshowitz, Rev. Moses J. Braude, Mark Frankel, N. Kornfeld, Rabbi Benjamin Brilliant, Morris P. Cohen, B. Koblentz and Jacob Lerner.
Joseph Hershberg of Albany opened the convention. Rabbi Henry Segal of the Ohav Sholom Synagogue declared the invocation. William Weiss of New York, national president of the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America, made the keynote address.
