The Board of Aldermen yesterday ordered Dr. Charles A. Fama, recently named to the medical board of the city employees’ retirement system, to appear in connection with charges that he is a religious bigot.
A resolution introduced by Aldermen John J. Cashmore and William P. Flood calling the physician “unfit and unqualified” to hold public office was adopted unanimously by the Aldermanic board. It charged that Fama had substituted for former United States Senator Heflin at an anti-Catholic Ku Klux meeting and that his prejudice extends to the Jews.
