Unique features will mark the “cruise dance” for the benefit of German refugees, which will be given next Sunday at the Hotel Astor, under the auspices of the Greater New York Junior Division of the United Jewish Appeal, it was announced yesterday by Miss Adele I. Springer and Maurice R. White book, co-chairmen.
Sponsors include Governor and Mrs. Herbert H. Lehman, Aldermanic President Bernard S. Deutsch, Felix M. Warburg, Paul Baerwald and Nathan Strausss Jr., Judge Julian W. Mack, Judge Johan J. Goldstein, Judge Otto A. Rosalsky, Joseph M. Proskauer, George Z. Medalie and Justice Mitchell May.
AMUSEMENTS CONTRIBUTE
Leaders in the amusement industries contributed $12,000 to the United Jewish Appeal for German-Jewish refugees at t a luncheon in the Motion Picture Club, 1560 Broadway, called by Nathan Burkan, chairman of the amusement division of the campaign. George Jessel, president of the Jewish Theatrical Guild, announced on its behalf a gift of $1,000. Eddie Cantor wired $1,000 from Hollywood.
QUEENS WORKERS MEET
Campaign workers and contributors of the North Queens division of the United Jewish Appeal will meet Wednesday evening at Tifereth Israel Synagogue, Jackson Heights. Over $1,500 has been raised by this division, which is headed by Dr. Mordecai Soltes.
TEACHERS RAISE $8,400
The sum of $8,400 has already been raised by the Educators’ Division, it was reported at last Friday’s meeting of more than 300 teachers at the Hotel Astor. Dr. Edward Mandel, associate superintendent of schools, heads the division.
LEHMAN DINNER SET
Fifteen hundred Brooklynites are expected at the dinner in honor of Governor Herbert H. Lehman at the Hotel St. George June 21, when the bulk of Brooklyn’s quota in the United Jewish Appeal drive is expected to the raised. Proceedings will be broadcast by Station WOR.
WESTCHESTER PLANS
A series of activities are planned for the next few weeks by the Westchester county committee of the United Jewish Appeal. $22,000 of the $50,000 quota has already been raised, it was announced by Mark Eisner, chairman. Mt. Vernon expects to wind up its campaign with a rally June 21.
