A world-wide movement to enlist the support of Jews in every nation to bring about the vindication of Abraham Stavsky, condemned to die for complicity in the murder of Dr. Chaim Arlosoroff, was initiated by Chief Rabbi A. I. Ha-Cohen Kook today.
Over his signature as the chief rabbi of Palestine, Rabbi Kook dispatched more than a hundred cable messages to the largest Jewish communities, chief rabbis all over the world and leading Jewish personalities in Europe and America, asking action in behalf of Stavsky. In addition, a special cable was sent to the Archbishop of Canterbury asking him to fight “for the sanctity of truth, justice and honor of England” by helping to obtain freedom for the convicted man.
The text of Rabbi Kook’s message to Jewish leaders follows:
“Stavsky too, is innocent and righteous. Fight with all your strength for the triumph of justice.”
To the Archbishop Rabbi Kook wrote as follows:
“Death sentence was pronounced here on Friday for Abraham Stavsky, who is innocent. I beseech you to fight with all your strength for the sanctity of truth, justice and honor of England, which is precious to me.”
SEEKS PRAYER’S SOLACE
Stavsky yesterday asked that phylacteries be brought to jail for him in order that he may pray.
Zvi Rosenblatt, who was set free, is in Jerusalem incognito. He visited Chief Rabbi Kook and thanked him for his support during the trial.
It was learned here that Rosenblatt is planning to go abroad in the near future.
