For her scholastic excellence in oceanography and bacteriology—fields where women are the exception to the rule—Miss Rose Ostroff, graduate student at the University of Washington, this week was awarded a fellowship at the Woods Hole, Mass., only laboratory for the study of deep sea fish and water on the Atlantic Coast.

Miss Ostroff, only Jewish co-ed enrolled in oceanography, was selected for the honor because of her exceptional record in University studies, Prof. Thomas G. Thompson, head of the University Oceanographical Laboratory, declared. Miss Ostroff has already left for Woods Hole. She is 24 and a member of Sigma Xi.
