To the Editor, Jewish Daily Bulletin:

May I, through your columns, appeal for financial aid for the defense of Abraham Stavsky, who at present is under sentence of death for the alleged murder of Dr. Chaim Arlosoroff.

The non-partisan committee was called into existence at the request of the revered Chief Rabbi of Palestine, Rabbi Kook. To his support have rallied not only all the rabbis of Palestine, but one hundred representative Jews, men who, in the normal course of affairs, are not associated with agitation, and on whom those accustomed to deal with Palestinian matters have had hitherto excellent cause to rely for sound judgment and cool action.

These men, responding in part to the written report of the fourth of the judges to try Stavsky, Judge Valero, who himself is a native of Jerusalem and descended from an old Palestinian family, are convinced of the innocence of Stavsky. They are asking all Jews everywhere to aid in preventing what they believe is a miscarriage of justice.

The non-partisan committee has gone no further than to do whatever lies in its power to safeguard the rights of the accused. It is anxious that the truth prevail—whatever the truth may be—but the appeal and possible retrial, as every reader of the Bulletin knows, is a costly process.

Checks, however small, will be gladly received, and should be addressed to the Stavsky Defense Committee, 50 Morningside Drive, New York City.

Jacob De Haas, Co-chairman, Stavsky Defense Committee.

New York City.
