Congressman James M. Beck, Oswald Garrison Villard, editor of the Nation; John A. Phillips, president of the State Federation of Labor; Francis Biddle, chairman Foreign Policy Association, and Judge Harry S. McDevitt, president, Common Pleas Court No. 1, will speak at a city-wide meeting at the Metropolitan Opera House, Wednesday evening. Samuel Untermyer, president of the Non-Sectarian Anti-Nazi League, will deliver the principal address.
The aim of the parley is to stimulate greater interest here in the boycott of German-made goods. A survey made recently showed that Philadelphia is lagging behind in the boycott drive. A number of department store executives, when approached in the interest of the boycott, are said to have stated they had encountered no resistance along these lines.
The American Federation of Labor, the Central Labor Union, the American Legion, the Jewish War Veterans, together with a number of Jewish organizations, are sponsoring the meeting, expected to be one of the largest of its kind arranged here.
The address of Mr. Untermyer will be broadcast from station WCAU and a number of other stations on the Columbia network. The entire program of the evening will be broadcast from Station WIP.
Deputy Banking Commissioner Jacob B. Hoffman is chairman of the arrangements committee with Herman N. Schwartz, county commander of the American Legion, co-chairman, and Morris, Drob, treasurer.
