Professor Attilio Momnigliano, a Jew, was appointed today to the chair of Italian literature at the University of Florence. He is an authority on the works of Dante, immortal poet whose native city was Florence.

Professor Momnigliano will succeed Senator Manzoni, renowned authority on the subject he taught, who is retiring from university work due to old age.
