A gift of $7,500 for the X-ray department of the proposed Hadassah-University medical center in Jerusalem has been announced by Mrs. Edward Jacobs and Mrs. Alexander Lamport, co-chairmen of the building fund committee of the new institution. The money represents contributions by Mrs. Irma L. Lindheim, former national president of Hadassah, and friends of her husband, the late Norvin R. Lindheim, toward a Palestine project in his memory. Mrs. Lindheim, who is now living in Palestine, requested that the memorial fund be used for the X-ray department of the new hospital.
More than 100 Ivriah workers were the guests last Wednesday of Mrs. William Jasie, honorary president of the organization, at a garden party on her estate in West End, N. J. This fete has come to be an annual event on the Ivriah calendar, and is eagerly anticipated by the workers as a climax to their winter campaign.
The University of the State of New York recently has recognized the courses of the School of the Jewish Woman as work for which alertness credit will be given to public school teachers, according to the announcement of Dr. Trude Weiss Rosmarin, director of the institute. In additional to a radio forum and a weekly broadcast of lectures, the school offers courses in all grades of Hebrew, Jewish history, Bible, Talmud, Jewish customs and ceremonies and related subjects.
The Choral Society of the Young Women’s Hebrew Association is accepting singers interested in the study of sight reading and harmony. Under the direction of Mr. Leon Kramer, folk music and sacred chants in Hebrew, Yiddish and English will be studied, including the works of Sulzer, Lewandowsky and Naumburg, foremost composers of religious music.
