Rabbis Named on Kosher Unit in Poultry War

Important developments in the poultry situation yesterday were:

Announcement of a Rabbinical Advisory Committee of Fifty to counsel the city government on enforcement of Kashruth laws.

A meeting of representatives of rabbinical organizations in the office of Arthur Simon, Health Department investigator, to lay plans for rabbinical supervision of poultry markets.

A closed meeting of representatives of poultry wholesalers, retailers and slaughterers at the office of J. Sidney Bernstein, 250 West Fifty-seventh street, to attempt to resolve differences. It was reported that little was accomplished.

TO MEET NEXT MONDAY

Letters were sent out this morning signed by Deutsch notifying the members of their appointment. Arthur Simon is expected to send letters calling a meeting for next Monday at City Hall. Deutsch left for a vacation this morning.

It appeared yesterday that the desultory warfare of the last year between Shochtim Union Local 440 and the Vaad Shochtim Oifes, rival slaughterers’ unions, will be ended in the near future when representatives of both groups yesterday signed an agreement at Simon’s office to consolidate the two unions according to the findings of a Board of Arbitration.

The Arbitration Board comprises Arthur Simon, chairman; Rabbi Moses Rosen, Louis Boudin, S. Erdberg, Rabbi Ephraim Kaplan, Louis J. Gribetz and Rabbi Raphael Morishansky.
