Obviating a long – threatening strike an agreement that slaughterers of kosher poultry will be paid at the rate of one-half a cent per pound and that they will not be obliged to kill more than 12,000 pounds, about sixty coops, per week, was reached yesterday between representatives of the wholesalers and slaughterers meeting with Judge Otto Rosalsky, the Mayor’s mediator, in his chambers in the Criminal Courts Building.

It was furthermore decided that in markets where small amounts of poultry are killed, slaughterers will receive a minimum wage of $45.

The agreement, reached by representatives of the two groups, will be acted upon by the respective groups in the near future. Acceptance is regarded as likely.

Owners of small markets protested vigorously that the latter step was a move to force them out of business.

The agreement contains substantially all the demands of the slaughterers.

The question of rabbinical supervision of markets was still in question. J. Sidney Bernstein, counsel to the wholesalers declared himself against it. Last week he termed rabbinical supervision of poultry markets “a racket.”
