Des Moines, Iowa (Jul. 20)
An editorial in the Des Moines Register declares that Germany booted her tennis chances away in the Davis Cup contest when Prenn, a Jew, was ousted from the Reich team.
“As the last rounds of the annual world-wide Davis cup contest for the national tennis teams approach, it can be regretted that the exclusion of a Jew, Prenn, from the German team probably is all that prevented Germany from earning the right to challenge England for the cup. The outstanding singles player of the year has been von Cramm, the German. The German team lost to France, which in turn lost to Australia, only because Germany preferred to use along with von Cramm a couple of third raters, instead of a Jew,” said the editorial.
