An agreement reached between local farmers and workers’ representatives for the employment of Jewish labor to the exclusion of Arabs is now likely to be completely disavowed by the farmers because of an incident in which Zvi Makhness, son of one of the farmers here, was attacked and severely beaten by fifteen Jewish workmen said to belong to the Kibbutz Hameuchad.
Makhness’ father was one of those who employed Arab labor. The young man is in the hospital as a result of the attack. Two of his assailants were identified and are under arrest.
Davar, Labor daily, commenting on the incident, deplores its occurrence, saying that such acts of terrorism are wholly unnecessary, but it adds that the two men arrested were actually at a meeting at the time the incident occurred.
The Vaad Hachaklai (Agricultural Committee) here declares that in retaliation it will not proceed with the terms of the agreement, reached after lengthy negotiation, although not signed.
