The enormous daily consumption of milk, vegetables and home grown fruits in Tel Aviv is shown by figures issued by “Thnuvah,” the cooperative marketing organization of Jewish labor settlements.
More than 12,000 litres of Jewish milk are sold daily, and 5,000 cases of Emek-grown grapes per week the report reveals. Jaffa Arab consumers also demand Jewish fruit, and the shops there are being supplied. So large is the Tel Aviv market for fruit that huge consignments are imported from Syria, Cyprus, Roumania, and Bulgaria. Efforts are now on foot to increase planting of deciduous fruits.
