There is no danger of hunger in the Jewish regions of the Ukraine, S. Almazov, national secretary of Icor, Association for Jewish Colonization in Soviet Russia, declared when informed of the cabled reports from Moscow. “We have been in constant touch with Moscow,” he said, “and were informed that thanks to extraordinary steps taken to combat the drought, all danger of hunger was obviated.
“In addition we have here the latest issues of the newspapers published in Yiddish in the Jewish regions in the Ukraine, which tell of measures taken to safeguard crops. It is true that the whole region suffered and some of the crops were bad, but the grain crop was very good this year.”
