Schuschnigg and Mussolini Confer

With the eyes of all Europe upon them, since the result of their conference may well decide the future course of events in Central Europe, Premier Mussolini and Chancellor Schuschnigg of Austria today held their first conversations in Florence.

Although spokesmen for both conferees have repeatedly insisted that the conference would be purely an informal exchange of ideas, it is held reasonably certain that among the topics considered by the leaders will be the problem of Austria’s independence.
