Brooklyn authorities struck a telling blow yesterday at pre-holiday activities of promoters of so-called “mushroom” synagogues.

A crusade to drive out the religious racketeers who make huge profits by setting up illegal temples during the High Holy Day season was launched yesterday by Kings County District Attorney William F. X. Geoghan, who acted under the Joseph law.

Several services scheduled to be held in various sections of Brooklyn were ordered cancelled yesterday by Assistant District Attorney Vincent J. Ferreri. Among the alleged “mushroom” organizations thus affected are the Temple Beth David, 140 Neptune avenue, Coney Island, and another located at 318
