Prof. Perelman Has Devoted 35 Years to Study

Completion of thirty-five years of scientific activity by Profesor Jakov Perelman, profesor of physics and mathematics at the University of Leningrad, was celebrated by the scientific world today.

Professor Perelman is the author of more than thirty popular scientific works which have reached a two million circulation mark. A hundred thousand copies of his physics and mathematics textbooks also have been distributed. His volume entitled “A Trip in the Inter-Planetary Realm” has been described by Ziolkovski, Russian scholar, and other European writers as one of the best examples of popular scientific literature.

In 1899, when he was still a student at the Gdodno gymnasium, Perelman began his scientific career with the publication in a local newspaper of an article entitled “Rain of Fire.” The article made sport of the popular fear that the end of the world would come with a stellar shower due that year.
