Poultry dealers were preparing yesterday for a fight to the finish to prevent execution of Judge Otto A. Rosalsky’s decision establishing rabbinical supervision of poultry markets.
At a meeting late Monday night at the Great Central Palace, 90 Clinton street, rabbinical supervision was denounced as a “superstructure” and speakers protested that the levy of one cent per fowl which the settlement entails would victimize the Jewish public.
Among the speakers were: Jacob Schatz, Saul Obrentz, William Augenblum and Nathan Gordon. The speakers urged the 100 poultry dealers present to combat the settlement.
Judge Rosalsky’s settlement, handed down in mediation of a threatened shochtim strike, places the Kashruth Association of Greater New York in control of rabbinical supervision, provides for tagging chickens to certify that they have been slaughtered according to the Jewish ritual, and provides a minimum wage and maximum production for slaughterers.
