Schooled in the roughshod tactics of the Nazi overlords whom some of its members admire so deeply, the political committee of the German-American Conference has issued a threat to the Staats-Herold Corporation, publisher of two German language newspapers here, that it must either turn pro-Hitler and discharge its Jewish employes or suffer the consequences.
Word of the committee’s resolution was sent in letter form to Bernhard Ridder, president of the publishing corporation, over the signature of Dr. Alfons Richter, secretary of the German-Austrian Conference. Thus far it has evoked no comment from the Ridders, who were leading figures in the Conference until last May, when they were ousted by the Nazis. Richter’s letter follows:
“As secretary of the German-American Conference I have the honor to submit to you in the following a resolution and opinion of the political committee of the German-American Conference.
“Starting with the assumption that it is of the greatest importance that a strong German language daily press stand at the disposal of New York Germandom, and deeply concerned over the situation in which the newspapers of the Staats-Herold Corporation have placed themselves by their reports and comments, which are injurious and revolting to the overwhelming majority of New York Germandom, the political
