Lithuanian Jewish leaders today made a direct appeal to President Antanas Smetona to intervene and halt the widespread anti-Semitic campaign now under way in the country.
President Smetona received a delegation composed of leading Jewish personalities in all fields and discussed with them the critical economic and political situation of the Jews which has resulted from the anti-Jewish agitation.
The Jewish representatives complained particularly of the failure of local authorities to halt anti-Semitic agitation, which has culminated in a number of cases in open attacks against the Jews.
