Three Bronx rabbis have brought suit against the Kashruth Association, Schochtim Union, Local 440, and eleven poultry concerns to recover $161,650 damages allegedly suffered because of exclusive supervision by the Kashruth Association in the markets, it was learned yesterday.
Staunch opponents of the system of “plombes,” tags signifying rabbinical supervision, instituted by the Kashruth Association several months ago, Rabbis Raphael M. Barishansky, Israel Movshowitz and Louis J. Hahn are taking their fight to the Bronx Supreme Court for a final verdict.
Named in the action besides the Kashruth Association and C. Chodesh, president of the Schochtim Union, are the following poultry corporations: the Van Nest Poultry Market, Inc.; Panesh Live Poultry Corp.; Intervale Live Poultry Corp.; Salthe Poultry Corp.; Sokoloff, Siegel & Zarkin, Inc.; Kusinitz Poultry Corp.; Bathgate Live Poultry Market, Inc.; Horenstein & Bromberg, Inc.; M. Rosen Live Poultry Co., Inc.; Poster-Robins, Inc, and the Manne Bros. Live Poultry Corp.
