There will be neither a “Blue Sunday” nor a “Blue Sabbath” in Palestine, it became known here today when High Commissioner Wauchope declared he does not intend to legislate a compulsory resting day in the country.

The High Commissioner added that the municipalities will be empowered to introduce local regular closing hours for stores and enforce observation. The municipalities will also decide on the question of a resting day.

The difficulties in setting a definite day of rest in Palestine lie with the varied religions observed by the inhabitants. While the Arab population would like to see Friday as their day of rest, the Jews would insist on Saturday as their Sabbath day, and the Christians would prefer that Sunday be the day set for rest.
