Mr. and Mrs. Bernard M. Baruch of 1,055 Fifth avenue have announced the engagement of their daughter, Miss Renee W. Baruch, to H. Robert Samstag of 55 East Eighty-sixth street.

Miss Baruch is a graduate of Barnard College, ’26, and a member of the Junior League. Her grandfather was the late Dr Simon Baruch of Civil War fame and her father is a close adviser to President Roosevelt. Mr. Baruch is nationally known as a financier and economist and has been decorated by his own government as well as those of foreign nations. During the World War Mr. Baruch was chairman of the War Industries Board.

Mr. Samstag is associated with the brokerage firm of Hamershlag, Borg & Co. of this city. During the World War he trained with the air corps of the United States Navy. He was graduated from Princeton in 1919 and is a member of the Princeton Club of New York.

Miss Eleanor Rosenwald of Chicago, daughter of the late Morris Rosenwald and niece of Julius Rosenwald of Chicago, and Dr. Joseph Harris of Los Angeles were married on January 2 at Beverly Hills, Cal., at the home of the bride’s sister, Mrs. Reed Howes.

Dr. and Mrs. Harris will make a brief wedding trip to Palm Springs, Cal. They will reside in Beverly Hills.

Miss Jean Erlanger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Felix M. Erlanger of this city was married on December 29 at the Ethical Culture School to Stanley A. Sawmelle son of Mr. and Mrs. M. Sawmelle also of this city. Following the ceremony, which was performed by Dr. John L. Elliott of the Ethical Culture School, there was a reception at the home of the bride’s parents, 156 West Eighty-sixth street.

Mr. and Mrs. Sanford Jacobi of this city and Woodmere, L. I., have announced the engagement of their daughter, Miss Ethel Miriam Jacobi, to Stanley Roth, son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Roth of New York.

Miss Jacobi was graduated from the Dalton School and later attended Arlington Hall in Washington. Mr. Roth attended Staunton Military Academy in Virginia and is now with the firm of Emil Roth & Co.

Mr. and Mrs. Barnet Weinstein of 320 West Eighty-sixth street and Cedarhurst, L. I., have announced the engagement of their daughter, Miss Evelyn Weinstein. to Gilbert C. Monness of 789 West End avenue. Miss Weinstein attended Columbia and the Traphagen School of Fashion. Mr. Monness is a graduate of theDwig## School, Cornell University, and Fordham Law School.

A surprise dinner party was given on December 28 to Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Borstein by their children in celebration of their thirty-sixth wedding anniversary.

Mr. and Mrs. Borstein were married in Boston and lived there for many years. Ten years ago they moved to Jamaica and are widely known for their many charitable activities. The party was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Hoffman of Jamaica. Mrs. Hoffman is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bornstein. Seven children and one of the six grandchildren of the couple were present at the celebration.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ross of Boston have announced the engagement of their daughter, Miss Ruth Helene Ross, to Ralph Nathan Rosenbaum. Miss Ross holds the degree of Master of Education from the Boston Teacher’s College. Mr. Rosenbaum attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology and was graduated from New York University.

A daughter, their second child, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Richard M. Levy of 88 Central Park West on Wednesday, December 06, at the Lying-in-Hospital. Mrs. Levy is the former Miss Barbara Grant of New Rochelle, N. Y. The child will be named Marjorie Ann.
