The White Russian government has conferred on Michael Rafalsky, founder and director of the Yiddish State Theatre in Minsk, the title of “People’s Artist of the White Russian Government.” The award was made on the twenty-fifth occasion of the anniversary of his entrance into the theatre. The government also presented him with a motor car and a sum of money.
Many representatives and delegates of theatres in Moscow and the provinces, literary and art organizations, newspapers, factories and workers have visited Rafalsky and greeted him on his anniversary. Telegrams were received from famous actors, producers and others who are connected with the theatrical world. The chairman of the White Russian Council of Commissaries, M. Golodya, sent him a letter of congratulations.
