The news from Bucharest that the Rumanian government has ordered the disbanding of the Macedonian anti-Semitic youth organization is another proof that the present authorities in Rumania are seriously interested in suppressing anti-Semitism in the country.
At a time when anti-Semitism is encouraged in other countries of Eastern and Central Europe, the attitude of the Rumanian government is to be applauded. It is being appreciated by many Jews in many countries.
There was a time when the Jew-baiting spirit was very much tolerated in Rumania. It is good to see that the present government has realized that this spirit, which members of previous governments have encouraged, proved to be detrimental to the interests of the country.
Neighboring governments of Rumania, such as Poland and Austria, should learn from Rumania’s experience with regard to the problem of anti-Semitism. Such a lesson would do them nothing but good.
