of the Jewish Board of Guardians, succor him. This Board is supported by voluntary charity from the successful brethren. The richest in the faith (and there are many millionaires among them) give liberally, and the guiding principle is always to help the Jew to help himself.

Working for the British Jews, and incidentally for the British nation that shelters them, is the very Rev. Joseph Herman Hertz, the Chief Rabbi of the United Hebrew Congregations of the British Empire. Dr. Muttuck is another of the most challenging forces in modern Judaism.

The man in the street can pick out other names such as that of Lord Reading who, from beginning before the mast, has risen to be Lord Chief Justice, British Ambassador to the United States and Viceroy of India.

And there are thousands of others to whom we are grateful and of whom we are proud—Lord Duveen, whose benefactions to British art are unparalleled; Jacob Epstein, the greatest sculptor of this age; Professor Einstein living in a cottage down in Surrey since he renounced German citizenship; and money barons such as Lord Bearstead, Lord Swaythling, and Lord Melchett.
