General Umberto Pugliese, Italian Jewish soldier who rose to high command in the engineering corps of the Italian army, was appointed head of the state commission for naval building today.

General Pugliese formerly was head of the state-directed shipbuilding and wharf-building organization.

He distinguished himself in the World War and was decorated for bravery by the Italian government.
