An appeal has gone forth from the executive offices of the Canadian Jewish Congress to the Jews of the country, asking them to help the Canadian Jewish Archives Committee, which wants to collect and preserve every bit of data having historical and cultural value.
The Canadian Jewish Archives Committee is a standing committee of the Canadian Jewish Congress which has been formed to carry out this mission.
The appeal is made through a circular letter over the names of S. W. Jacobs and H. M. Caiserman, president and general secretary, respectively, of the Congress; and H. Hershman, B. G. Sack and S. Abramson, chairman, vice-chairman and secretary, respectively, of the committee.
“We address ourselves to every individual Jew and organization throughout Canada, to every Jewish community, be it large or small, that they must join us in our work,” the letter says.
The secretaries of Jewish institutions of all kinds are requested to send “everything which they have in their possession which is of interest to the history of the Jews in Canada and which they do not want to be lost.”
“We ask them to forward to us all Jewish publications, minute books, annual reports, circulars, appeals, leaflets, photographs, documents, letters, newspaper clippings and all other material which they may have.”
All material intended for the collection should be sent to the committee, in care of the Canadian Jewish Congress, 2040 Bleury street, Montreal.
The Archive of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency includes articles published from 1923 to 2008. Archive stories reflect the journalistic standards and practices of the time they were published.
