A protest against the dissolution of numerous Jewish community councils throughout Rumania was voiced today in a communique issued by the Union of Rumanian Jews.

Simultaneously, court action was taken today against the Minister of Public Welfare for dissolving the Jewish community administration in Cernauti, Bukowina, and for ordering new elections. A hearing on the case against the Minister has been set for April 5.

The communique by the Union of Rumanian Jews says that many Jewish community boards have been ordered liquidated following the application of certain Jews seeking favors from political parties. The Union affirms that the right to dissolve Jewish community administrations belongs exclusively to Jewish central bodies.

“Anyone who will in the future ask for the dissolution of the properly elected community boards will be considered and will be treated as guilty of crime against the Jewish religion and the Jewish people,” the communique warns.
