Despite the large income which the Palestine government is deriving from Jewish immigration into Palestine, the authorities today refused the demand of the Vaad Leumi, the Jewish National Council, that the government subsidy for Jewish schools should be increased.
The Vaad Leumi, in its demand to the government, pointed out that the small subsidy now granted the Jewish educational system must be enlarged in accordance with the proportion of Jewish pupils in Jewish schools. In reply, the Palestine government informed the Vaad Leumi that it did not agree with its viewpoint.
Since the Arab school system in Palestine is fully maintained at government expense, Jewish leaders here declare the government is not justified in rejecting its demand for a proportionate increase in the subsidy for the Jewish school system.
