Attempts to introduce religious differences among Hungarian war veterans were severely condemned today in the Magyar Front, official organ of the Hungarian Association of War Veterans.
“Our association knows no religious or any other differences among its members,” the paper declares. “We do not deny any of our comrades who fought with us and bled with us. There are about 600,000 war veterans in Hungary, and about five per cent of them are Jews,” the paper adds.
The theory that the “Aryans” are a superior race was questioned today by ex-Minister of Finance Roland Hegedues in an article in which he declares the entire racial theory a sociological impossibility.
“As a sociologist,” he writes, “I present the view that the entire race problem is not only an anachronism but a sociological impossibility, for if only the ‘Aryans’ were qualified to promote Christian civilization, we Hungarians would be the first who would have to disappear from the face of the earth.”
