An intensive drive against the sale of non-kosher meat as kosher which was launched by the Retail Kosher Meat Trade Code Authority has resulted in the issuance of a summons by Chief Magistrate James E. MacDonald followed by the removal by many butchers of the kosher meat signs from their show-windows, the Code Authority announced yesterday.
Acting on a complaint Inspector Harry Lamb entered a butcher shop at 16 Delmonico Place, Brooklyn, where he alleged he found non-kosher meat exposed for sale although the show-window bore the Hebrew sign, “kosher meat.”
Chief Magistrate MacDonald signed a “John Doe” summons against the owner of the store on Inspector Lamb’s complaint, alleging violation of the kosher food law. The summons is returnable tomorrow in Bridge Plaza Magistrates Court, Brooklyn.
