A new Jewish Agency which will function in competition with the present Jewish Agency was officially proclaimed here today by the World Orthodox Agudath Organization.
The proclamation states that the Agudah has decided to establish its own agency to work along the same lines as the Jewish Agency in which Zionists and non-Zionists are represented and which is recognized by the League of Nations under the Palestine Mandate.
In its announcement, the Agudah makes it clear that it will conduct independent political negotiations with the Palestine government, the British government and the League of Nations. It will also conduct independent colonization and immigration work, the proclamation announces, indicating that the new Agency will demand from the Palestine government certificates to bring Jews into Palestine independently of the Zionist Organization.
The decision of the Agudah to establish its own agency came as a surprise to the Jewish population ### Palestine. The opposition ### Agudah to the Zionist Executive was well known, but it was not believed that it had reached a point where the Agudah would establish a competitive agency. It is believed that this step was taken by the Agudah leaders after announcing their intention to the High Commissioner of Palestine.
