A Jewish Folk Ballet, organized in Chicago a year ago by the Jewish People’s Institute as the only full-sized Jewish ballet group in the world, is to be presented at the Institute tomorrow, Sunday, and Wednesday.
The presentation is “Lilith,” a ballet based upon an old story about the coming of Messiah when the Jews throughout the world shall have kept two successive Sabbaths holy. The presentation is fashioned like a symphony, sections meeting to create volume, a richer beauty and a more subtle interpretation. The costumes are striking, the music is original and especially composed for the ballet.
In organizing the Jewish Folk Ballet, the Chicago Jewish People’s Institute felt that the encouragement of such a ballet has a definite place in Jewish life, for the dance form of art has too long been neglected as a medium for interpretation of Jewish folk lore and legend.
Nathan Vizonsky, director of the ballet, was associated with Max Reinhardt for seven years. Joseph Elson, composer of the music, is a member of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Miss Rose Krupnick, costume designer, was associated with the Roxy Theatre in New York.
