Military parades, airplane maneuvers and special services in churches and synagogues marked today the celebration of the Jubilee of King George V throughout Palestine.
Joining the entire Empire in the celebration, Palestine, which is a territory under British Mandate, was decorated with British flags, merry crowds filling the streets of Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and other cities.
The schools throughout the country as well as public offices and banks were closed today. The telegraph offices throughout the country were busy dispatching the many congratulatory messages addressed by institutions and individuals to Buckingham Palace in London.
SEND CONGRATULATIONS
The Jewish Agency for Palestine, the Vaad Leumi (Jewish National Council) and the Chief Rabbinate sent their felicitations to the King in behalf of the entire Jewish population of Palestine.
Sir Arthur Wauchope, the High Commissioner of Palestine, accepted the honorary presidency of a special committee established by the Jewish National Fund for the planting of a forest in Palestine to bear the King’s name. The forest will be planted near Nazareth and will have about 1,200,000 trees. The cost of planting the forest will be covered by a special fund to be raised by the Jews of England as an expression of their loyalty to the King.
