Military honors were accorded here to Chief Rabbi Koretz on his first visit to Athens following his appointment as Chief Rabbi of Greece.
The visit was converted into a pro-Jewish demonstration in the city in which thousands participated. Rabbi Koretz was welcomed by representatives of the government and hailed by the Greek press in editorials.
Addressing a cheering audience of thousands on Constitution Square, the Chief Rabbi called attention to the fact that the Jews have supported the present government from the outset. A military escort accompanied him to the Square and a military band played in his honor.
The Greek press, commenting on the Chief Rabbi’s visit, states that a new era of close association between Jewry and Greek life has now been established from which both the Jews and the Greek people will benefit.
