A striking demonstration of unity among Jews and Christians on behalf of the Jews in Germany and of the refugees from Germany was provided in this city by Mayor George H. Lysle, who issued an official proclamation addressed to Herman Levine, chairman of the local campaign of the United Jewish Appeal, calling upon the entire community to adopt the “good neighbor policy” and to aid the Jewish community here in raising its Appeal quota.
Mayor Lysle’s message was a highlight in the local campaign, which was launched with a dinner at which the principal speakers were Rabbi Solomon B. Freehof of Pittsburgh and Leo Lehman, chairman of the Pittsburgh campaign.
