While a new heat wave brought thousands of bathers to the beaches here, the municipal lifesavers today announced that they would declare a strike if their wages are not immediately increased.
The threat is creating great consternation among the population. Efforts are being made to reach a compromise between the lifeguards and the municipality in order to allay the concern of the bathers. The beaches in Tel Aviv are on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea.
