With a generous pace set by Louis Bamberger, veteran Newark philanthropist and patron of the arts and sciences, the United Jewish Appeal campaign for $50,000 has been launched in Essex County, New Jersey.

Mr. Bamberger, attending a dinner conference in Newark of the initial gifts committee at which Rabbi Jonah B. Wise and Paul Baerwald, two of the national co#rmen of the Appeal, were guest speakers, pledged to contribute one dollar for every two dollars subscribed.

The drive opened Tuesday with a mass rally at which Morris Margulies, secretary of the Zionist Organization of America, and Joseph C. Hyman, honorary secretary of the Appeal, were guest speakers.
