A total of 582 Jews in Budapest were converted to Christianity in 1934, it was revealed here today for the first time when the annual report of the Budapest Jewish community was made public.
The report also expresses considerable alarm over the rising tendency of Budapest Jews to withdraw from the Jewish Community.
The greatest number of conversions, the report states, was recorded among the professional elements, who deserted their faith in the hope that they would thus be enabled to engage in the practice of their profession, unhampered by racial discrimination.
