Latvia Disbands Parents’ Union

The Jewish Parents’ Union was closed here today by the Minister of the Interior. The reason given is that the existence of this group is “detrimental to the interests of the State.”

The action is part of the general policy of the Latvian government to suppress Jewish activities in the country. The Union did not indulge in any political work, limiting itself to Jewish educational activities.

The Union was composed of parents who do not send their children to strictly religious Jewish schools. The present policy of the Latvian government is to entrust Jewish matters only to the Agudath Israel, the extreme orthodox Jewish party.
