An American midshipman of the U.S.S. Wyoming, was fined fifteen marks today for trying to protect Jews who were attacked last night by Nazis in one of the cafes on Kurfuerstendamm in Berlin.

The midshipman, E. W. Wood of New York, was kept in jail all night charged with “disturbing the peace.” He got into a fist-fight with Nazis when they assaulted a Jewish woman on a terrace and knocked her down.

Wood lodged a complaint with the American authorities in Berlin.
