The Greek government today notified Jewish leaders that a sum of ten million drachmas has been assigned for rehabilitating the Jewish slums in Salonica.

The decision was adopted after the recent visit to Salonica by the Minister of the Interior, who made a special study of the Jewish situation there. He promised to see to it that the government assisted in the solution of the housing problem for the poorer part of the population.

The Jewish community of Salonica received the news of the government’s decision with great joy. The entire Jewish population in Salonica has long displayed its confidence in the present regime by voting for it and supporting it during the recent Venizelos revolution.

A united front of all Jewish groups for Jewish communal activities was organized here a few days ago.
