Dr. Sokolow also stressed the industrial development of the country and the accomplishments of the hydro-electric enterprises on the Jordan and the mineral extraction enterprises at the Dead Sea. He hailed the cultural achievements of Zionism, describing the revival of the language of the Bible as the greatest of these. Calling this “the greatest miracle of our age,” he urged the intensification of efforts to spread the Hebrew language and called for the support of this work by the Congress.
Reporting on the financial progress of the Zionist movement, Dr. Sokolow declared: “In financial matters we have set our house in order after having won for Zionism the respect of the world by quiet, systematic and productive labor.”
Dr. Sokolow’s survey contained also a statement of the fundamental principle of the Zionist movement. “We stick to the Mandate in word and in spirit,” he said. “Our basis is the Jewish National Home and nothing else. This home, however, is to grow and develop. No man has the right to fix the boundaries of the march of a nation. No man has the right to say: Thus far shalt thou go, and no farther!”
