Should the instructions to the police not be rescinded, it is estimated by Jewish leaders that 10,000 Jewish families in Berlin alone will be left without a means of livelihood. The total number of Jews engaged as traveling salesmen in Germany, between 30,000 and 40,000 exceeds the combined total of those in all the professions.
In addition to the measure affecting the salesmen, the order provides that no licenses are to be issued to Jewish manufacturers to travel for the purpose of selling their own goods, because they also are allegedly likely to spread propaganda detrimental to the interests of the Reich.
Another Ministry of the Interior order instructs the Reichsbank and the German railways system to purge themselves of Jewish employes before the first of the year. Only a small number of war veterans and experts, who are still employed in these branches of the Government service, are affected by the order.
