The remains of a synagogue built in the thirteenth century have been discovered in Breslau on the site of an old, church, the press reports. The church was built in the Middle Ages and it is assumed replaced the synagogue which previously had occupied the site.
This is the second case in the Breslau district in which evidence of ancient synagogues have been found on sites later occupied by churches. The first case was in Oels, near Breslau, where it was established that the St. Salvatore Church had been reconstructed from an ancient synagogue.
