There are 214 rabbis in Lithuania who have received, in the last nine years, a total of $160,000 in salaries from the Government, according to a study made public by the Ministry of Education and Public Worship.
In addition, the Government granted subsidies totaling $2,500 for reconstruction of synagogues. In many cases, the Government also supplied timber and wood fuel for the houses of worship.
Salaries of Jewish religious teachers amounted to $15,000 in the same period.
